Receive a Call

  • Updated

Whether you're available right away or need a minute before answering, Dialpad gives you some flexibility when it comes to how you receive your calls.

If you're looking to receive a call from another type of device, visit our Help Center articles on iOSAndroid, or desk phones.

Let's take a closer look at receiving a call in Dialpad's desktop app.

Answer or Decline a Call

Dialpad lets you receive calls both in-app and through a pop-up notification outside the app. You'll also hear a ringtone played through your device's speaker or a connected headset.

If you're in Do Not Disturb mode, remember that these incoming calls will not surface as notifications.

In-App

Incoming calls appear in the top-left corner of the Dialpad app.

Select Answer to pick up, or select the Decline to ignore the call. If you choose to answer, the active call screen launches with an array of options including real-time transcription powered by Dialpad Ai .

Decline or miss a call? Dialpad will ask if you'd like to call back, send a text, or mark as spam.

Notification Pop-Up

Incoming calls appear outside the Dialpad app through a pop-up notification.

Select Answer to pick up, or select Decline to ignore the call. If you choose to answer, Dialpad Everywhere launches with quick access to select features.

Decline or miss a call? Dialpad will ask if you'd like to call back, send a text, or mark as spam.

Merge a Second Call

Merge an incoming call with an active call, allowing you and two other callers to communicate simultaneously.

Select Merge (With Current Call), either in-app or through the pop-up notification. It will add the second call to your active calls displayed in the top-left corner of the Dialpad app.

Merging a call is only available if your first call is active rather than on hold, and you'll need to enable this ability in your Dialpad profile's Call Handling & Voicemail section.

Adjust Your Ringtone

From the Dialpad app, navigate to the drop-down menu in the top-right corner and select App Settings Ringing/Notification AudioRingtone.

Choose the ringtone Dialpad plays each time you receive a call. Included are several premade ringtones, but you may upload an MP3 file to serve as a custom ringtone instead.

You can also choose where ringing and notifications play from, such as your laptop's built-in speakers or a connected headset.
