If your audio device didn't connect automatically, you can still make manual adjustments to your Dialpad audio settings.
Let's take a look at how to manually add a default device for both Windows and Mac users, as well as adjusting your sound settings.
Add default device (Windows)
If you want calls to ring out of your headset and to answer through your headset, follow these steps:
- Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Manage Audio Devices > Playback Devices
- Select your headset and choose Set as Default Device
- Remove any laptop or computer speakers by right-clicking and selecting Disable
- On the Recordings tab, select your headset device as the Default device
- On the Communication tab, select Do Nothing
- Click OK to save your changes
Follow these steps if you want calls to ring out of your computer speakers but answer calls through your headset:
- Control Panel>Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Device
- Keep your internal speakers set as your default device
- Right-click on your headset and select Default Communication Device
Add Default Device (Mac)
- System Preferences > Sounds
- On the Output and Input tabs, select the connected device you want to use
Chrome Browser
- Open a new Chrome window and click on your menu>Settings
- Click on Show Advanced Settings > Content Settings (under Privacy section)
- Scroll down to Microphone and set your desired device
Native & Chrome App Sound Settings
When you have either the Native or Chrome app open, we'll automatically recognize when you insert a USB headset into your computer.
Mac Option #1: Ring through Computer Speakers
For users who want to have their calls ring through their computer speakers, but use a headset to talk.
- Navigate to Dialpad App Settings
- Navigate to Ringing/Notification Audio
- Under Output, make sure internal speakers are selected
Mac Option #2: Ring through your Headset
For users who want to have their calls ring through their headset and use their headset to talk.
- Select Headset under your Dialpad App Settings
- Navigate to Ringing/Notification Audio
- Under Output, make sure headset is selected
Windows App Sound Settings
For users who want to switch between calls ringing through their headset and ringing through the computer (when you unplug your headset).
- Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Device
- Select your headset as the default communication device under Playback and Recording
- Navigate back to App Settings > Microphone Selection and select your headset
If you're experiencing one-way audio, you may need to adjust the Advanced Settings under your Recording device. Follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:
- Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices>Recording
- Select your default microphone device and right-click to Properties
- Select Advanced > Signal Enhancements > Enable Audio Enhancements
