    Article summary

Businesses utilize SMS for client communication due to its speed and accessibility. Company Admins can control external SMS/MMS messaging for the entire company for security and compliance. Admins can enable or disable this feature through the Dialpad Admin Portal. Enabling external messaging requires registration for US phone numbers to avoid blocking and higher fees. Disabling external messaging restricts sending and receiving messages to non-Dialpad numbers. Internal messaging remains unaffected. Admins can also allow outbound messaging from unregistered numbers, although registration is recommended to prevent blocking and increased fees. All organizations sending messages to US phone numbers must register to comply with regulations and avoid disruptions.

Enable outbound messaging from unregistered numbers

Major US mobile carriers are regulating SMS/MMS messages sent via A2P (Application to Person) messaging. All businesses that send text messages to ten-digit US phone numbers are required to register their Brand and SMS/MMS Campaigns. If you send SMS/MMS messages without a successfully registered campaign, your messages are at high risk of being blocked (and will also be billed at higher messaging rates).

While not recommended, you can send SMS/MMS messages from unregistered campaigns.
