Manage a User Desk Phone

Dialpad is available on desk phones,  in addition to desktop and mobile.

Let's take a look at managing a Desk phone in Dialpad.

Please review this Help Center article to see a list of all supported desk phones.

💡 Note

Your desk phone must be connected to the internet before getting started.

Add a Desk Phone — Polycom x50 Series (OBi Edition)

To add your Polycom x50 series phone, first, head to Dialpad.com

  1. Navigate to Admin Settings Office
  2. Select Desk Phones
  3. Select Add a User Phone
  4. Click Polycom x50 Series (OBi Edition)

  5. Name the desk phone
  6. Select The device screen does NOT display "Dialpad Activate"
  7. Click Next
  8. Dial the registration number in the window (starts with two stars, "**")
  9. Enter the PIN
  10. Hang up the phone

The phone will reboot and complete the registration process on its own.

Add a Desk Phone — OBi 300

To add your OBi 300, first, head to Dialpad.com

  1. Navigate to Admin Settings Office
  2. Select Desk Phones
  3. Select Add a User Phone 
  4. Select See More Options and choose OBi 300
  5. Name the desk phone and assign it to a user
  6. Select Next
  7. Choose Purchased from Dialpad or Purchased from 3rd Party and select Next
  8. Pick up the desk phone, dial the activation code, and hang up. Once you've entered the activation code, you'll hear a message confirming the phone is ready and connected to the account.

Add a Desk Phone — Polycom VVX

There are two different methods to add your Polycom VVX:

  1. If you purchased it from Dialpad
  2. If you purchased it from a third party

Let's take a look at the two processes below. 

Purchased from Dialpad

If you purchased your desk phone from Dialpad, first, head to Dialpad.com 

  1. Navigate to Admin Settings Office
  2. Select Desk Phones.
  3. Select Add a User Phone
  4. Click See More Options and select Other Polycom Phones.
  5. Name the desk phone and assign it to a user
  6. Select Next
  7. Click Purchased from Dialpad and select Next
  8. Pick up the desk phone, dial the activation code, and hang up. Once you've entered the activation code, you'll hear a message confirming the phone is ready and connected to the account.

Purchased from Third Party

If you purchased your desk phone from a third party, first, head to Dialpad.com 

  1. Navigate to Admin Settings Office
  2. Select Desk Phones.
  3. Select Add a User Phone
  4. Click See More Options and select Other Polycom Phones.
  5. Name the desk phone and assign it to a user
  6. Select Next
  7. Select Purchased from 3rd Party  and click Next

You'll see a set up menu, which guides you through the steps on your Polycom device.

  1. Navigate to Menu Status Network
  2. Copy the IP address from your Polycom device in a new web browser tab and add https:// before it
  3. Enter the Admin password displayed in Dialpad
  4. Navigate to SettingsProvisioning Server
  5. Change the Server Type to HTTPS, enter the server address provided in Dialpad, remove Server User and Server Password information, change Boot Server to Static, and select Save

OR

  1. Navigate to Menu SettingsAdvanced
  2. Enter the Admin password displayed in Dialpad
  3. Navigate to Menu Admin Settings Network ConfigurationsProvisioning Server
  4. Change the Server Type to HTTPS, enter the server address provided in Dialpad, remove Server User and Server Password information, change Boot Server to Static, and select Save

Now your Polycom device should be ready to use as a desk phone.

Add a Desk Phone — Yealink T3T4, or T5 series

To add your new Yealink desk phone, first, head to Dialpad.com 

  1. Navigate to Admin Settings Office
  2. Select Desk Phones.
  3. Select Add a User Phone
  4. Click Yealink Phone 
  5. Name the desk phone and assign it to a user
  6. Select Next
  7. Once initialization is complete, select one of the following options:
    1. The device screen displays "Dialpad Activate"
    2. The device screen does NOT display "Dialpad Activate"

If the device screen says "Dialpad Activate"

  • Enter the code prompted on your screen.  
  • A voice message will confirm that the code has been sent to the server.
  • Hang up the phone and the device will reset. 
  • Click Done

If the device screen does NOT display "Dialpad Activate"

  • Click this help-center link to tether your device to Dialpad.
  • Once done, your device will show "Dialpad Activate."
  • You can then click the "next" button on the pop-up to activate it.

Add a Desk Phone — OBi 1000 Series

To add your OBi 1000 series phone, first, head to Dialpad.com

  1. Navigate to Admin Settings Office
  2. Select Desk Phones.
  3. Select Add a User Phone
  4. Click See More Options and select OBi 1000 Series.
  5. Name the desk phone and assign it to a user
  6. Select Next
  7. Choose from Purchased from Dialpad or Purchased from 3rd Party and click Next

Pick up the desk phone, dial the activation code, and hang up. Once you've entered the activation code, you'll hear a message confirming the phone is ready and connected to the account.

Remove a Desk Phone

From Dialpad.com, navigate to Admin SettingsOfficeDesk Phones.

Identify the desk phone to remove and select Remove, then confirm the decision.

 💡 Dialpad Tip

Admins normally set up their Users' desk phones, but they can also allow Team Members to do this themselves.
