Easily access contacts to make a call or send a message, and store general contact information to know exactly who you're interacting with at any time. Dialpad syncs contacts both manually and automatically to ensure they are updated to meet your needs.
Let's take a look at managing contacts in Dialpad.
Create a contact
New contacts can be added manually from the Dialpad app's Contacts section or recent calls with unsaved numbers.
Create a contact from the Contacts section
To manually create a contact, navigate to Contacts in your Dialpad app.
Select the Add a Contact
Enter contact information, including their name, phone number, email address, company, role, and URL
Select Save Contact
Your new contact will be stored in your Contacts tab.

Create a contact from an unsaved number
To create a new contact from an interaction with an unsaved number:
Navigate to a conversation thread with an unsaved number
Select Add Contact
Choose Add to Existing or Add New Contact
Add to Existing lets you attach the number to an existing contact; just enter their name and add a label.
Add New Contact, enter their contact information including name, email address, company, role, and URL.
Edit a contact
To edit an existing contact, head to the Contacts section of your Dialpad app
Navigate to the contact you want to edit
Select Options beside the contact (that's the 3 vertical dots)
Select Edit Contact
Update the contact information as needed
Select Save Changes
If you're already in a conversation thread, select the user's skinny bar on the right sidebar and then, select Edit Contact.
Block a contact
In Dialpad, you have the ability to block any contact from your contact list.
To block a contact from the Dialpad app:
Navigate to Contacts
Select the name of the contact you wish to block
The contact's profile information will appear in a sidebar on the right
If you don't immediately see the contact's profile information after selecting their name, select the User profile icon in the right sidebar.
Select Block Contact

Delete a contact
Need to delete a contact? No problem.
Navigate to your Contacts
Select Options (that's the 3-vertical dot beside the contact's name)
Select Delete
Confirm deletion
Search for a contact
Easily find contacts using the Search feature.
From the Dialpad app, go to the Search bar:
Type a name or phone number
Press Enter
A contact may appear in the Personal Contacts and Group Contacts tab. This lets you see which contacts you've interacted with directly, and which ones the business interacted with using a Shared Line (i.e. your Main Line, a Department, or Contact Center)
Hover over the User profile icon to see their role and email address at a glance.
View a contact
To view contact details from the Dialpad app, open a conversation thread and select the User skinny bar on the right side.
Here you'll see the contact's name, role, phone number, and email address.
Google Workspace and Microsoft Office 365 users will also see any shared documents, emails, and calendar events in the right sidebar.
To favorite a contact, select the Star icon alongside their name.
Find contacts
Easily find the numbers that you need from the Contacts section of your Dialpad app.
To access your contacts, simply select Contacts from your main menu, then select a tab to see specific contact types.
The Contacts section of your app is divided into 6 tabs:
Frequent | Displays your most frequently contacted contacts. |
Contacts | Displays your personal contacts (Contacts locally saved on your Dialpad app). |
Directory | Displays contacts within your company (i.e. your colleagues). |
Group Chats | Displays the contacts in your Group chats. |
Departments | Displays a list of Departments in your Office. |
Blocked | Displays contacts that you have blocked in Dialpad. |
