Article Summary

Often referred to as our 'click-to-call' feature, Dialpad's extension for Chrome lets you click a phone number on a webpage and auto-populate that in the desktop app to quickly and conveniently place calls.

Who Can Use This Feature

The Chrome Click-to-Call extension is available on Dialpad's native desktop apps (Mac or Windows), the Web App with Chrome browser in any operating system, or on the Chrome OS App.

Choose Where to Launch Dialpad

First things first, you'll need to choose where to launch Dialpad.

From Chrome:

  3. Select Dialpad Extension
  4. Select Details
  5. Select Extension Options

Note:
If you already have a webpage open and click-to-call isn't working after changing this setting, reload the webpage and try the number again.

Disable or Remove the 'Open Dialpad' Chrome Pop-Up

Unless disabled, Chrome will ask you every time if you want to open the Dialpad app when clicking on a phone number.

To disable the pop-up, select Always allow [website name] to open links of this type in the associated app in the pop-up.

To see this option, ensure that you're on the latest version of Chrome.

You can also entirely remove the pop-up on any version of Chrome using these steps:

Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn't click-to-call automatically start calling when I click on a number?

By default, the Chrome extension will launch a new call screen, but not automatically start dialing the number — it does this so you can adjust your outbound caller ID.

To set automatic calling, head to your Chrome Settings.

  1. Select Extensions
  2. Navigate to Dialpad Extension
  3. Select Details
  4. Select Extension Options
  5. Uncheck the box beside Confirm phone number before placing call

Now, click-to-call will automatically start calling when you click on a number.

Why is click-to-call automatically calling the number when I have my Chrome extension set to 'Confirm phone number before placing call'?

Make sure you have the Dialpad Everywhere setting for Launch immediately when answering calls or initiating calls from the web disabled within the app settings.

Make sure the Chrome extension has Confirm phone number before placing call selected in the extension's settings.

You should now have the option to confirm the phone number before placing the call.

My extension is opening a blank tab. How do I get it back?

If your extension is opening a blank tab, you may just need to re-enable it. Here's how:

Re-enable on the Mac Native App

  1. Quit Chrome
  2. Open Finder > Go > Go to folder... (or Command+Shift+G)
  3. Paste in: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Local State
  4. Open the local state file
  5. Search for the word protocol_handler. You should see a short reference to "dialpad": false, or "dialpad": true. Delete those two words, including the quotation marks and trailing comma
  6. Save the file, restart Chrome, and try again

You should now be able to click-to-call via Chrome.

Re-enable on the Windows Native App

  1. Quit Chrome
  2. Click on the File Explorer icon, then select the C Drive. At the top of the file explorer field, type in users\[username]\appdata
  3. Click on the Local folder, then click on the Google folder > Chrome folder > User Data folder
  4. Open the Local State file
  5. Search for the word protocol_handler. You should see a short reference to "dialpad": false, or "dialpad": true,. Delete those two words, including the quotation marks and trailing comma
  6. Save the file, restart Chrome, and try again

You should now be able to click-to-call via Chrome.

What format does my number need to be in for call-to-click to work with HubSpot?
