Set a Custom Ring Duration

Add more flexibility to your call routing options. With a custom ring duration, you get to decide how long a user line, Department, or Room Phone rings before routing your call to another destination.

Let's take a closer look how custom ring durations work and how to set them for each of the available lines.

How it Works

Adding a custom ring duration to a user line, a Dept., or a room phone will:

  • Adjust the ring duration (between 10 seconds and 45 seconds)
  • Add additional call routing options once the duration is reached

The default ring duration for a user and Dept. line is 30 seconds. The default ring duration for a room phone is 45 seconds.

A few other things to keep in mind:

  • Custom ring durations apply to all inbound calls on your user/Dept/room phone
  • Custom ring duration applies to all of a user's endpoints (desktop/cell/desk phone)

Common Questions

What happens if my Dept. has a custom ring duration but my Operators have their own, too?

We'll default to whichever ring duration is shortest - your Dept. or your Operator's.

So let's say your Dept.'s call duration is 30 seconds but Operator A is set for 20 seconds. When a call comes into that Dept., Operator A will have the call ring out to them for 20 seconds while all other Operators will have the call ring out for the full 30 seconds.

This also applies to any Room Phones associated with your Depts.

After I set my ring duration, it doesn't seem to be working.

Unfortunately, this feature can't be 100% accurate all of the time. We'll try out best to match the duration you have set, but for durations set to 10 seconds or 45 seconds, you may find that there are some bumps along the way.

In the case of 10 seconds, we may not always be able to keep the ring duration that short.

In the case of 45 seconds, your forwarding #s voicemail might pick up after 30 seconds. Learn how to keep Dialpad calls with your Dialpad voicemail.
