    With virtual faxing (sometimes called e-faxing), you can send large files over the internet. You can also open your inbound faxes right in your email inbox and read them on your desktop or mobile device — no more big, bulky fax machines!

    Let's take a look at how to purchase fax licenses and assign fax numbers.  

    Who can use this feature
    Company Admins can purchase Fax Licenses for local, international, and toll-free numbers.

    Once a Fax License has been purchased, fax numbers can be added and removed to individual and shared lines.

    Purchase a fax license

    Before being able to add a fax number to a shared line, or to a user, you'll need to purchase a Fax License. 

    To purchase a Fax License, head to your Admin Settings from Dialpad.com 

    1. Navigate to Office Settings
    2. Select Licenses
    3. Navigate to Add-Ons
    4. Select Purchase licenses
    5. Enter the number of Fax Licenses you'd like to add
    6. Review the cost
    7. Select Confirm Purchase

    Next, you'll need to add a fax number to any shared or individual line — then you'll be able to send and receive faxes using this number.

    Faxing costs

    Faxing costs vary depending on who you're faxing and the type of line you’re using to send the fax. 

    Dialpad’s faxing service is built on our phone network, meaning, when we send a fax, we’re actually placing a call. 

    Local fax rates

    When sending local faxes, there's no cost for line usage, and you can send up to 1000 faxes per line each month.

    If you exceed the monthly limit, you’ll be billed $0.10 per page. 

    Toll-free fax rates

    Faxes sent from toll-free numbers are billed on the per-minute line usage cost. 

    You can send an unlimited number of faxes each month.

    International fax rates

    Faxes sent to an international number are billed on the per-minute line usage cost for that country.

    You can send an unlimited number of faxes each month.

    Add a fax number to a shared line

    To add a fax number to a Shared Line, navigate to your Admin Settings from Dialpad.com 

    1. Navigate to the desired Shared Line
    2. Select Add Fax Number
    3. Select Continue
    4. Enter the desired area code
    5. Review the cost
    6. Select Add fax number
    Note
    If you do not have an available fax license, you'll be prompted to purchase a fax license before being able to assign the fax number.

    Add a fax number to a user

    To add a fax number to one of your Users, head to your Admin Settings from Dialpad.com

    1. Navigate to Office Settings
    2. Select Users
    3. Select Options beside the desired User
    4. Select Calling
    5. Select Add a Fax Line
    6. Enter the desired area code
      • Dialpad currently only supports U.S. fax numbers
    7. Review the cost
    8. Select Add fax number
    Note
    If you don't have an available fax license, you'll be prompted to purchase a fax license before being able to assign the fax number.

    Remove fax number from a shared line

    To remove a Fax Number from a Shared Line, head to your Admin Settings from Dialpad.com 

    1. Select the desired Shared Line
    2. Navigate to Phone Numbers
    3. Select Options beside the Fax Number you'd like to remove
    4. Select Remove 

    Note

    If you do not see the option to remove your fax number, please contact Customer Support.

    Remove fax number from user

    To remove a Fax number from a User, head to your Admin Settings  from Dialpad.com 

    1. Navigate to Office Settings
    2. Select Users
    3. Select Options beside the desired User whose license you'd like to remove
    4. Select Calling
    5. Select Remove Fax Number

    Frequently asked questions

    How do virtual faxes work?

    Traditionally, fax were sent via the phone line to and from a physical fax machine, transmitting through the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).

    Internet faxes require no equipment or phone lines — all you need is a license, phone number, and plan from Dialpad.

    How many fax lines can I have?

    When purchasing fax lines through the Admin Portal, you are only able to purchase 10 fax lines. If you need more than 10 fax numbers, please reach out to Dialpad's Customer Support team for assistance. 

    Enterprise accounts can have up to 100 fax lines.

    Can I use a number for both faxing and calling?

    No. When a number is assigned to a fax line it cannot be used for voice calls or SMS messaging.

    Can I assign more than one fax number to a department?

    No, departments can only have 1 assigned fax number. 

    Can I send international faxes?

    Absolutely! Do be aware that international faxes are billed differently than local faxes. Be sure to review our faxing costs, and country usage rates.
