    Article Summary

Google Workspace offers automatic contact syncing and app integrations with Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Calendar to ensure seamless connectivity. With automatic contact syncing, Google Workspace syncs contacts with Dialpad, allowing easy calling and messaging without searching for contact information. Shared events, emails, and documents can also be accessed through Dialpad. To view shared events, an email address must be associated with the contact, and the event details are displayed along with the option to launch the calendar. Similarly, shared emails and documents are listed with subject lines and dates, and users can view them in a separate window. Users have the option to disconnect certain sidebar integrations if desired. When granting access to Google Workspace accounts, Dialpad only accesses basic profile information, contacts, and offline access for token refreshment. The app adheres to Gmail API policies for data usage.

Whether it's automatic contact syncing or app integrations with Gmail, Google Drive, or Google Calendar, you're always able to stay connected no matter where work takes you.

Let's take a closer look at the integration, starting with automatic contact syncing.

    Automatic Contact Syncing

Google Workspace will sync contacts with Dialpad automatically. It ensures that you're always able to easily call or message without scrambling for contact information.

Sign up or log in, then select Search in the Dialpad app. You'll see an alert at the bottom of your screen to sync all your contacts with Dialpad.

Select Connect with Google Contacts and complete the walkthrough to enable syncing. Return to the Dialpad app, and you'll discover names, email addresses, and phone numbers from Google.

Contacts created or edited in Gmail sync, and any changes made in Dialpad also sync.

    Shared Events

In order to see shared events, there needs to be an email address on file for your contact.

If you and your contact have any shared events, they'll be listed here. In addition, each event will display the event name, date, and time.

If your contact is currently in an event (and you have permission to view) we'll display the name of the event as well.

Click View Calendar to launch your calendar in a new window.

And if one of your contacts is currently in a meeting, we'll display that right next to their photo (like when they're on DND or on a call).

For this to appear on your contacts:

    • Contact must have meeting scheduled through Google Workspace
    • Meeting must be public
    • Contact must be associated with your Company

    Shared Emails

In order to see shared emails, there needs to be an email address on file for your contact.

If you and your Dialpad contact have any shared emails, they'll be listed here. Each email will display the subject line and date. Click on View All to launch your emails in a new window.

Emails are retroactive (so you'll see emails from before you had signed up for Dialpad).

    Shared Docs

In order to see shared docs, there needs to be an email address on file for your contact.

If you and your contact have shared any documents, they'll be listed here. We display the three most recent files including the title and date of the last edit.

Docs are retroactive (so you'll see docs from before you had signed up for Dialpad).

Keep in mind that 'shared' can mean either shared by you or shared to you. Click on View All to launch your shared documents in another window.

What does Dialpad do with access to our Google Workspace account?

When you log into Dialpad we access:

    •  your Basic Profile Information (OpenID, Email, Profile)
    •  your Contacts (OpenID, Email, Profile)

In addition to this, we have offline access. Offline access lets us access this information anytime to get a refresh token. If we didn't have a refresh token our access would expire in 1 hour, at which point we'd have to have re-authenticate your login every hour.

Incrementally, users can provide consent separately to the following:

    •  Documents (we only have access when they connect on the sidebar)
    •  Email (we only have access when they connect on the sidebar)
    •  Calendar (we only have access when they connect on the sidebar)
    •  Directory (only if admins choose to provide directory access)

If they do not select to connect their documents, email, or calendar with Dialpad then we do not have access to that information.

    Note:

    For Google Documents:

    • Dialpad requires read/create/edit permissions for Drive because we use it to upload call recordings and voicemails to your Google Drive.
    • We confine our operations to two folders: "Dialpad Recordings" and "Dialpad Voicemails."
    • Dialpad doesn't make any calls to delete your Google Drive/folders — including the ones Dialpad's created.

At Dialpad, we don't take chances with your security. So while you're granting Dialpad access to your accounts, this is solely so we're able to make the API call for the sync and display. Also, the app’s use of information received from Gmail APIs will adhere to Google's Limited Use Requirements.
