When Dialpad AI automatically starts transcription on a direct call to or from your personal number, you can choose whether callers hear a transcription greeting.
You can use the standard Dialpad compliance message, a custom recording, or no automated message.

Note
The setting applies only to direct inbound and outbound calls to or from your personal Dialpad number.
Let's dive into the details.
How AI call greetings work
AI automatically starts transcription in these scenarios:
- On a direct inbound call, the selected greeting plays once before the conversation begins.
- On a direct outbound call, the selected greeting plays once when transcription starts.
- If you select No Message, no automated transcription greeting plays for that call.
Note
This option is not available if your admin has disabled it in your office.
- If AI or automatic AI start is turned off, no greeting plays.
Note
The greeting will be if AI is enabled manually.
Note
Changing your greeting affects future calls. It doesn't change calls that have already taken place.
When you select this option, Dialpad displays a confirmation message about the compliance implications. You must confirm your selection before it is saved.
Important Note
You are responsible for ensuring that your calls remain compliant through another appropriate disclosure method.
Choose a call transcription greeting
To choose your call greeting, go to your Dialpad Admin Settings.
- Select Your Settings
-
Navigate to AI Settings
- Turn on Automatically start AI for calls, if it is not already enabled
Note
The Call Transcription Greeting IVR selection is available independently of the Automatically start AI for calls option.
- Under Call transcription greeting, select the greeting you want to use
- Save your selection
Greeting options
There are 3 standard greeting options:
Standard compliance message
Plays the standard Dialpad transcription disclosure when AI automatically starts transcription on a direct personal call.
The message is localized according to the applicable IVR language settings.
Custom greeting
Use a custom greeting that you upload or record in Dialpad.
- Uploaded audio files longer than approximately 45 seconds are rejected.
- In-product recordings can be longer than uploaded files.
- You can rename or delete custom greetings.
- If you delete the selected custom greeting, Dialpad falls back to the standard compliance message.
No message
Select No Message if you do not want Dialpad to play an automated transcription greeting on your direct personal calls.
Calls routed through groups
This setting does not control calls that route through a Contact Center, Department, Mainline, or Coaching Team before reaching you.
For those calls, existing group-level recording, transcription, IVR Compliance Check, and Two-Party Consent settings continue to apply. The direct user call greeting does not override group-level settings.
Troubleshooting
I do not see the Call transcription greeting setting
Confirm that:
- You've enabled the feature in Dialpad Labs
- Dialpad AI is enabled for personal calls.
- Automatically start AI for calls is turned on.
- You are using the Dialpad web app.
If the setting is still unavailable, contact your Dialpad administrator or Customer Care.
My greeting did not play
The greeting plays only when AI automatically starts transcription on a direct personal call. Check that:
- AI is enabled for personal calls.
- Automatically start AI for calls is turned on.
- The call was made directly to or from your personal number.
- No Message is not selected.
This setting does not add a greeting when AI is started manually during a call.
My greeting plays on a group call
The personal call greeting does not control group-routed calls. Contact Center, Department, Mainline, and Coaching Team calls use their existing group-level greeting and compliance settings.
My uploaded greeting was rejected
Uploaded audio files longer than approximately 45 seconds are rejected. Try a shorter file or record the greeting directly in Dialpad.
