Dialpad Talk helps you stay connected with a cloud phone system that works in real-time, across all your existing devices, to deliver voice, video, and messages. Let’s take a closer look at 5 best practice tips for getting the most out of the Android app.
Tour the App
For the most part, the Android app is fairly similar to the desktop app in terms of layout. Your first view is your Recent conversations will include:
- Recent calls (includes placed, received, and missed)
- Recent messages (includes faxes)
Tap on the + icon to pull up your quick action menu that includes:
- Add Contact
- New Message
- New Call
Tap on your profile photo to display your Do Not Disturb toggle (including timer), Inbox, Contacts, any Departments that you’ve been assigned as an Operator.
If you have unread notifications, you’ll see the badge count appear next to Recent or any Departments.
In addition, tap on Settings to view:
- Outbound Caller ID
- HD calling options
For times when you receive a call or message from a new contact, the Android app will give you the option to either:
- Add the number as a new contact
- Add the number to an existing contact
- Mark the number as spam / block the number
For new or recently edited contacts, Talk will automatically sync across your devices so the next time you search for that name, you’ll have the contact (and any connected integrations) right where you need it.
Have a favorite contact? Tap the contact to view the conversation thread then tap i to display the ability to star them. Favorite contacts appear at the top of your Recent list.
For spam and call blocking, you’ll have the option to:
- Block and allow voicemails
- Mark as spam
- Block all communications
Check Your Voicemails
Just like your desktop app, your voicemails are stored under your Inbox.
Tap on a voicemail to display options that include:
- Play audio
- Call back
And if you’re on the PRO or ENT Talk plan, you’ll automatically see your voicemail transcription right below the audio playback options.
Adjust Your Caller ID
Talk gives you options to adjust both your inbound caller ID as well as your outbound. Let’s take a quick look at both.
Inbound Caller ID
Before following these steps, make sure to login to www.dialpad.com
- On your Profile select Your Devices
- Select Advanced Options
- On the menu that appears, select how you want inbound calls to appear on your device
- Click Save Changes to confirm
Outbound Caller ID
- On the iOS app, either tap New Call from the + menu or tap the phone icon wherever it appears
- Tap the drop-down arrow next to your name to display all caller ID options
Setting your caller ID here will only apply to that specific call. To change your caller ID globally (meaning for all calls), you can navigate to your Android profile > Settings > Outbound Caller ID.
Keep in mind that this will apply to all your Talk calls, even if you place them on another device (ex: laptop or desk phone).
Calls from the Android Dialer
In addition to setting your outbound ID through the Talk app, you’ll also have the option of defaulting to use a specific ID when placing calls with your native Android dialer (meaning outside of the Talk app).
- Use Talk caller ID
- Use mobile number
- Ask before each call
Check Your Android Settings
Just like your desktop app, you have access to control how notifications for things like calls or voicemails appear on your Android device.
Find these options under your Android profile > Settings > Receive Notifications For. By default the options listed below will be toggled ON.
You’ll also have the option to adjust how you’re alerted that you’ve received a notification including options to:
- Play a notification sound
- Silence notifications while on a call
HD vs. Carrier Calling
If using a company issued device, check with your admin about whether they’d prefer you to stick with HD vs carrier calling.
The Android app gives you the option of how you’d like outbound calls placed—either through HD calling or through your carrier.
You’ll see the option to set HD vs carrier calling for:
- Received calls
- Placed calls
- Choose before each call (outbound only)
Regardless of what option you select, your Talk account will automatically log your call activity so you can go back to it anytime you need.
