Often referred to as our 'click-to-call' feature, Dialpad's extension for Chrome lets you click a phone number on a webpage and auto-populate that in the desktop app to quickly and conveniently place calls.
You can use either native/desktop apps (Mac or Windows), the Progressive Web App, and even our Web App with the extension. The only requirement is using a Chrome Browser.
Choose Where to Launch Dialpad
From Chrome, navigate to Settings > Extensions > Dialpad Extension > Details.
Select Extension Options > Use this Dialpad app to place all calls:. You can choose the desktop app, the Chrome app, or the web app.
It will then serve as your default choice for placing calls using the click-to-call feature from Chrome.

Disable or Remove the 'Open Dialpad' Chrome Pop-Up
Chrome will normally ask every time whether you want to open the Dialpad app after clicking on a phone number using click-to-call, but this pop-up can be disabled.
Select Always allow [website name] to open links of this type in the associated app in the pop-up. To see this option, ensure that you're on the latest version of Chrome.
You can also entirely remove the pop-up on any version of Chrome using these steps:
For MacOS:
- Go to Applications>Launchpad and open it. Alternatively, your dock might already have Launchpad. Click on it so it shows you the launchpad screen
- Search for 'Terminal' and open it
- In the window you see, paste this and hit enter
defaults write com.google.Chrome ExternalProtocolDialogShowAlwaysOpenCheckbox -bool true
- Restart Chrome
- After this is done, it should show a different dialog box when you click on a phone number and you can then choose to remember Dialpad for phone links going forward
For Windows:
- You have to create a new REG_DWORD value in regedit on the folder Chrome "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Google\Chrome"
- Then right-click on the Chrome folder and select "new DWORD"
- Past in the value name, "ExternalProtocolDialogShowAlwaysOpenCheckbox"
- Edit it and set the value to 1
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Why doesn't click-to-call automatically start calling when I click on a number?
By default, the Chrome extension will launch a new call screen but not automatically start dialing the number; it does this so you can adjust your outbound caller ID. You can, however, adjust this behavior.
From Chrome, navigate to Settings > Extensions > Dialpad Extension > Details.
Select Extension Options > Confirm phone number before placing call. Uncheck this box to have click-to-call automatically start calling when you click on a number.
Why is click-to-call automatically calling the number when I have my Chrome extension set to 'Confirm phone number before placing call'?
Make sure you have the Dialpad Everywhere setting for Launch immediately when answering calls or initiating calls from the web disabled within the app settings.
Make sure the Chrome extension has Confirm phone number before placing call selected in the extension's settings.
You should now have the option to confirm the phone number before placing the call.

If your extension is opening a blank tab, you may just need to re-enable. Here's how:
