# Use your Obihai phone

Learn all about the features of your Obihai phone while using Dialpad.

The features mentioned below will work with any of our [compatible Obihai devices outlined](/v1/docs/supported-desk-and-room-phones).

## Place a Call

To place a call with your handset or headset, you can:

- Direct Dial
- Search for a contact
- Scan through the Call History

## Search a Contact

To place a call by searching a contact:

1. Navigate to and select **Contacts**
2. Press **Search**
3. Type in your contact’s name and press **Search**
4. Scroll down to review all contact’s with that name
5. Select your contact and press **Call**

> When using a headset, plug it into the wired headset connector on the back of your Obihai phone. Then, press the **Headset** button.

## Dial an Extension

Extension dialing is an [Enterprise](http://www.dialpad.com/pricing) feature.

Once your [Admin has assigned extensions](/v1/docs/add-remove-team-members) to your team members, dial the extension # directly into your Obihai and press **Call** (or wait 3 seconds for automatic dialing).

> Extension dialing is only available between team members in the same Company. If your Company has more than one Office, extensions will work across multiple Offices as well.

## Receive a Call

You can receive a call by:

- Picking up your headset
- Pressing **Answer**

Depending on if you have a headset connected, pressing **Answer** will connect your call through speakerphone (headset) or through the handset.

## Hold Music

As part of your [Main Line settings](/v1/docs/manage-a-main-line) when you place a caller on hold using your Obihai device, the caller will hear hold music.

## Conference (Add a Caller)

To conference in another caller:

1. Press **Conference** while on an active call
2. Enter in a number or use phone book to search
3. Select your intended recipient and press **Call**

> The first caller is placed on hold while we ring out to an additional caller.
4. When the additional caller answers, press **Conference Now** The additional caller is added to your active call.

## Transferring Calls

Obihai offers two ways to transfer your call: Warm Transfer or Direct Transfer (Blind). Transfer calls between team members, or between your [Executives and Assistants](/v1/docs/working-as-an-executive-assistant).

To Warm Transfer a call (Ask First):

1. On your active call screen, press **Warm Transfer**
2. Dial in your recipient's number (add a '1' before the #)

> Dialpad will automatically ring out to the recipient (while putting your active call on hold)
3. Once your recipient answers, you can press **Transfer** to complete the connection

If your recipient doesn't want to take the call/is unavailable, press **End Call**then press the active line button in the upper right corner to take back the call with the original caller.

To Direct Transfer (Blind) a call:

1. On your active call screen, press **Transfer**
2. Dial your recipient's number (add a '1' before the #)
3. Press **Dial******to send your caller to your transferee

## Guest Login (Hotdesking)

Before following these steps, make sure your Dialpad Admin has enabled this on your Office's account. Once enabled, just follow these steps:

1. Select **More** > **Login**
2. Enter your Dialpad number and your [Voicemail & User PIN](/v1/docs/your-dialpad-profile)

Once your Obihai reboots, you'll see your contact information populated on the device. When you need to log out of the device, just select **More** > **Logout** (we'll also automatically log you out after 24 hours).

## Switch to Obihai Device

If you pick up a call from the desktop app or mobile app and wish to move it to your Obihai phone, press **Take Call**.

To move the call back to the desktop:

1. Open your Dialpad desktop app
2. Under **Active Calls**, select your caller's name
3. Select **Switch Call to this Device**

## Inbound Caller IDs

Adjust how your incoming caller ID displays on your device.

To adjust incoming caller ID’s:

1. Navigating to **Your Settings**>**Your Devices**
2. Select **Forwarding Number**>**Advanced Settings**
3. Set preferences for incoming calls to your personal, Department/Main Line, and your Executive line
4. Select **Save Changes**

## Block Your Caller ID

If you're looking for a little privacy, you can opt to block your caller ID by dialing ***67** before entering in your recipient's area code and number.

## Check Your Voicemail

You can check your voicemail directly from your Obihai phone. Just dial in your Dialpad number and when prompted, enter your [user & voicemail PIN](/v1/docs/your-dialpad-profile).

After you listen to your messages, you'll be prompted via audio to:

- Archive
- Keep as New
- Play Again

> Note
> 
> Only **New Voicemails** are available on your Obihai device. Any old or already listened to voicemails will not be available on the Obihai phone.

To delete a voicemail:

1. Dial in to your voicemail and enter your voicemail PIN
2. Play the voicemail again
3. Once it’s finished, press the key indicated in the automated message to delete the voicemail
4. Once the voicemail is deleted, hang up

### Message Waiting Indicator

With the Message Waiting Indicator (MWI), your Obihai will display a red light at the top when there are unread voicemails.

After listening to your voicemails (from any device), the light automatically turns off.
