# STIR/SHAKEN for Dialpad Users

Let's talk spoofing and spam calls. We've all been there, you answer a call from a local number and are immediately informed your car insurance is about to expire, or your credit card debt can magically be forgiven.

These instances certainly are annoying, but how does this impact your business? Well, due to an increase in unwanted spam calls, carriers have implemented STIR/SHAKEN authentication standards to label and/or block calls that are not registered in their records, as they believe the call could be deceptive or illegal.

Not to worry, as a Dialpad User, we have followed every step to ensure your numbers are registered and set up for your success.

> [!NOTE]
> Who does this apply to?
>
> STIR/SHAKEN applies to all American and Canadian [Dialpad Connect](https://www.dialpad.com/plans-and-pricing/#business), [Dialpad Meetings,](https://www.dialpad.com/plans-and-pricing/#meetings) [Dialpad Sell,](https://www.dialpad.com/plans-and-pricing/#sales-dialer) and [Dialpad Support](https://www.dialpad.com/plans-and-pricing/#contact-center) customers.

## **What is STIR/SHAKEN?**

**STIR/SHAKEN** is a framework of interconnected standards designed to protect you against robo-callers and caller ID spoofing.

STIR/SHAKEN is the acronym for the **S**ecure **T**elephone **I**dentity **R**evisited (*STIR*) and **S**ignature-based **H**andling of **A**sserted Information Using to**KEN**s (*SHAKEN*) standards.

STIR/SHAKEN digitally validates the handoff of phone calls passing through the complex web of networks (such as Dialpad), allowing the phone company of the consumer receiving the call to verify that a call is infact from the number displayed on Caller ID.

## How do I know if a number is STIR/SHAKEN verified?

If the number has been STIR/SHAKEN verified, you’ll see a check mark next to the phone number.

This will appear on both inbound HD call notifications & in the active call screen.

### Do all U.S. carriers require STIR/SHAKEN compliance?

Not all U.S. carriers are required to be fully STIR/SHAKEN compliant. Some providers still use legacy, non-IP routing systems like TDM SS7. When a call passes through one of these networks, it can lose its A-level attestation. The FCC is currently reviewing a proposal to close this loophole and work toward universal STIR/SHAKEN compliance.
