# Start and Join a Meeting

Dialpad Meetings allows you to run your meetings from anywhere, whether you are the meeting organizer or an attendee.

Let's look at starting and joining a meeting.

> [!NOTE]
> Requirements
>
> You'll need a reliable internet connection to get the most out of Dialpad Meetings.
>
> Don't forget to check that your hardware and internet speed meet Dialpad Meeting's [](/v1/docs/dialpad-meetings-system-requirements)[system requirements.](/v1/docs/network-requirements-for-dialpad-meetings)

## Start a meeting

Dialpad Meetings offers three different ways to start a meeting:

1. From the web or desktop app
2. Dial in by phone
3. Dial out by phone

### **Web & desktop**

To start a meeting from the Dialpad Meetings app or your desktop, select **Start Meeting** from your Dialpad Meetings Dashboard.

Ensure that your [audio and video](/v1/docs/dialpad-ai-meetings) are set up properly, then select **Start Meeting**.

If you'd like to turn your microphone or camera on or off before starting the conference, select the appropriate icons first. You can also record the meeting and enable AI transcription.

> [!NOTE]
> Note
>
> If you enable recording and/or AI transcription before starting a meeting, an audio notification plays at the start of every Dialpad Meeting.
>
> If you turn these features on or off while the meeting is in progress:
>
> - A visual banner: appears on everyone’s screen for 20 seconds or until they click to close it.
> - Web participants: If your account settings have [audio notifications for all participants](https://help.dialpad.com/docs/control-meeting-settings-for-team-members#set-transcription-and-recording-audio-notification-setting) enabled, all app users and the host will hear a short audio notification (recording is on, recording off, transcription is on, transcription off)
> - Phone participants: Anyone calling in (including the host) will hear an audio notification informing them that the meeting is being recorded and transcribed for use by Dialpad and its service providers.
