Article Summary

Getting the right devices in the hands of your team, whether that’s headsets or desk phones, can make or break both internal adoption as well as customer or prospect experience (especially when you have internal sales and support teams).

At Dialpad we want to ensure that you’re getting the most out of your conversations by testing (and re-testing) recommended headsets and desk phones.

When it comes to audio quality and your Dialpad desktop app, the right headset makes all the difference.

While there are a number of headsets that are compatible with Dialpad, in order to get the best possible experience and call quality Dialpad officially recommends pairing with either the Plantronics or Jabra models:

  • Plantronics

Poly Voyager 5200

Poly Voyager 6200
Poly Voyager 8200

Poly Voyager Focus (UC)

  • Jabra (UC versions only; MS versions are not compatible)

Evolve 40 (wired headset)
Evolve2 65 (wireless headset; connects via Bluetooth to USB adapter)
Evolve 75 (wireless headset; connects via Bluetooth to USB adapter)
Engage 50 (wired headset)

These models support direct integrations with Dialpad call controls, meaning that users will be able to answer, hangup, mute, and unmute direct from their headset rather than within the Dialpad app.

Dialpad Tip
Make sure to have the third-party software (Plantronics or Jabra) installed in order to take advantage of the integration.

If you prefer using wired headsets rather than the recommended devices, Dialpad suggests the following devices:

  • Plantronics Blackwire USB models (mono or dual-ear)
Must be UC model (not MS model)
  • Jabra Evolve 40
  • Sennheiser
    Must be USB wired
Note:
For best results, use the USB connection, NOT the 3.5mm jack

Similar to headsets, selecting the right desk phone can make all the difference when it comes to how your team communicates.

We support several deskphone models, but only some phones support the full Dialpad experience, including dynamic call controls (switch between devices, Do Not Disturb, etc.).

Ordering hardware

While customers can bring their own device (BYOD) to Dialpad, keep in mind that only devices directly purchased through Dialpad will come with pre-configured firmware, zero-touch provisioning, as well as offering the full range of Dialpad features.

Customers in the US and CAN can purchase devices via www.dialpad.com/orders (you must have office admin permissions).

Outside the US/CAN? Reach out to your dedicated AE or CSM to place your order.

Dialpad is a direct reseller of the following devices:

Tracking Adoption

Office admins can track the adoption of company-issued devices like laptops, mobile, or desk phones straight from their Dialpad analytics.

Just filter by Entire Office to view Calling Habits and a breakdown of device usage. You’ll also see a breakdown of device usage in your weekly analytics reported automatically sent to office admins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Poly, Obihai and Yealink devices listed above the only models I can purchase directly from Dialpad?

Yes. As more models are introduced, we’ll update our documentation and orders page accordingly.

Does Dialpad resell any headset devices?

Not at this time.

If I don’t purchase a desk phone directly from Dialpad, what happens?

You’re more than welcome to bring your own device (BYOD) to Dialpad rather than purchasing directly from Dialpad.

  • Benefits of purchasing directly from Dialpad
  • Latest firmware is already loaded onto the device
  • Provisioning steps are easier (one touch vs a few extra clicks)
  • Fully supports the range of Dialpad features beyond basic call controls (switch between devices, do not disturb, etc.)

What if I bring a desk phone to Dialpad that isn’t a recommended device?

It mostly has to do with the end-user experience. While there are a number of SIP-based IP phones on the market that may end up being compatible with Dialpad’s service, our own team has not verified nor tested these devices so there’s no way to ensure that you’ll get the exact experience you’re after vs leveraging one of the devices recommended above.

Of course, our team is always available to answer any questions you may have on desk phones.
